Germany's Michael Jung riding La Biosthetique Sam FBW and New Zealand's Tim Price riding Wesco are the current joint leaders of the Rolex Kentucky horse trials

Both riders put in superb dressage tests of 36.3% and it was only Great Britain's William Fox Pitt riding last years winner Bay My Hero who came close with a score of 38.5% to slot into third position.

Impressively Michael Jung was also 4th on Brigitte and Joachim Jung's Fischerrocana FST who also broke into the 30's with a score of 39.3%.

First out on the cross country will be Colleen Rutledge (USA) riding Shiraz who is currently in equal 49th after posting a dressage score of 60.3%, with Phillip Dutton second out on Fernhill Fugitive who is in 14th place after dressage.

Zara Phillips who was due to make her Kentucky debut had to withdraw her horse High Kingdom just before the dressage on Friday after it picked up an injury, however the pair are also booked into Badminton in two weeks time if High Kingdom fully recovers in time.

Other British riders taking part include US based James Alliston who is placed in 33rd position riding Tivoli and 59th position riding Parker. And Nicola Wilson is currently in 11th place riding Annie Clover and 27th riding Watermill Vision and Francis Whittington riding Easy Target is 15th after dressage after posting a good 47.6%.
