Made from either leather or synthetic they attach to the stirrup bar under the skirt of the saddle and it is from these that the stirrup irons are attached. Stirrup leathers need to be checked regularly to ensure that the stitching is safe.
Stirrup leathers come in a variety of sizes from childrens which can range from 24 to 48 inches long and are usually three quarters of an inch wide, to adult length which can range from 36 to 61 inches long and are usually one inch wide. Most leathers have a stainless steel buckle and come in black or havana.
