Andrew Nicholson Wins Rolex Kentucky
Andrew Nicholson (NZL) has won the prestigious Rolex Kentucky 4 star three day event in Lexington riding the Spanish bred Quimbo a horse who is owned by Deborah Sellar, putting him in with a chance of also winning the $350,000 Rolex Grand Slam at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials next week.

Nicholson put in a stellar performance with both of his horses Quimbo who is only 10 years old and at his first 4* event and Calico Joe, with Quimbo placed in second after the dressage and Calico Joe placed third after the dressage phase, just behind William Fox-Pitt riding Chilli Morning who despite a dressage of 33.3 was retired on the cross country course after picking up 20 penalty's at fence 7.

Mary King was another to be caught out and subsequently retire out on the cross country course that was again this designed by Derek di Grazia who built a big, bold challenging course.

Nicholson's other ride Calico Joe unfortunately had three fences down in the show jumping and dropped one place to third allowing William Fox-Pitt and Seacookie TSF to move up the leader board after putting in a clear show jumping round to finish in second.

Bruce (Buck) Davidson Jr also had a great competition which started with their dressage performance of 45.2 which left them in 8th place and a clear round cross country and two show jumps down moved them up into 4th place much to the delight of the home crowd.

Next weekend it is the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials and both Andrew Nicholson and William Fox-Pitt are in great form to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing bonus which has only been won once before by Pippa Funnell.
