Royal Ascot • Horse Racing
Ascot Racecourse is a well known and prestigious racecourse that is a major destination on the social and flat racing calendar, especially during the month of June where the Royal Meeting takes place and includes the much anticipated Group 1 Gold Cup horse race.
Royal Ascot has long been an important race meeting and dates back to 1711 when it was first founded by Queen Anne and even today the Royal family remain very firm attendees at arriving at 2 pm each day in a Royal Procession in beautifully presented horse drawn carriages.
The Pre- Parade Ring is a great place to get an early peak at the horses entered in each race and it is here that you'll see the horses walking around and getting ready for the Parade Ring. Horses enter the Parade Ring 15 minutes before the start of the race and further offers the chance to view each horse prior to placing a bet, as each horse is walked around the parade ring enclosure with their tack on while they await their jockeys who are being weighed in prior to the race and then also enter the Parade Ring and mount their horse before proceeding to the track.
There are plenty of places to then watch the horse racing action taking place, alongside the rails of the track is obviously very impressive as the horses come quite literally thundering past at great speed towards the finishing line while other areas include grandstand, lawn areas which have big screen tv's and private boxes where you can enjoy great views of the action within your own private function room.
What To Wear
Royal Ascot is a real chance to dress to impress with Gentlemen traditionally in either suits or top hat and tails and the Ladies in the finest of dresses and the most wonderful of hats! You are advised to thoroughly check the permitted dress code for the area that you will be in well before the event.
