Maher Wins Puissance At Olympia
Great Britain's Ben Maher who was part of the Olympic Gold winning show jumping team alongside Peter Charles, Scott Brash and Nick Skelton has won the Alltech Christmas Puissance competition at Olympia riding the impressive 11 year old chestnut gelding Noctambule Courcelle.
Laura Renwick who was the only other successful competitor in round four opted to not take, her stunning bay gelding Roller Coaster over the enormous 7 feet 1 inch high wall in round five, leaving Maher the winner who was impressively close to clearing the infamous wall when the horse just nudged one of the blocks out behind. Maher was also successful during Friday night's Christmas Masters competition which he won riding his London Olympic partner the talented Tripple X III, against a tough line up which included Roger Yves Bost (FRA) riding Castle Forbes Vivaldo van het, Scott Brash riding Ursula XII and Pius Schwizer (SUI) riding Powerplay.
Other competitors having success this week include Irelands Cian O'Connor who rode the incredibly fast chestnut gelding Splendor to great success in the 1.60m Santa Stakes on Friday who was one of only three riders to go clear in the jump off, Michael Whitaker posted a super fast time but 4 faults left him in 4th on Miss M Braybrooke's horse Viking. The other two clear rounds in the jump off where from Penelope Leprevost (FRA) riding Nice Stephanie and Luciana Diniz (POR) riding Fit For Fun.
Still to come is the exciting H&M Six Bar and the 1.60m H&M Ivy Stakes as well as the highly sought after Olympia Grand Prix on the final night.
