Dick Francis
The very well known author and jockey has died at the age of 89. Dick Francis who was a champion jockey is most famous for riding the Queen's horse Devon Loch who famousley collapsed onto his belly during the grand national at Aintree as he was in the lead and nearing the finish post.
Dick Francis was also one of the trustees of a charitable trust which helped to save Aintree racecourse during the 1980's. He often visited Aintree for the Grand National and his support and popularity has been rewarded by Aintree naming one of the feature races after him during the Grand Natioanal which runs from the 8th to the 10th this April.
Dick Francis will also be remembered as a thriller writer whoes novels were based on a racing theme.
